|
As the name implies, air
expanded ACSR is a conductor whose diameter has been increased
or "expanded" by aluminum skeletal wires between the
steel and the outer layers of aluminum strands creating
internal air spaces. A conductor having the necessary diameter
to minimize corona effects on lines operating above 300 kV
will, many times, have more metal than is economical if the
conductor is of conventional design.
Air expanded ACSR was,
therefore, developed to provide a more economical balance
between diameter and current carrying capacity. Designs for
special applications are available upon request.
